Hi there! My childcare experience began when I was about fifteen living in Berkeley, CA. As an only child, the chance to care for my neighbor's 1yo and learn how to be responsible for someone else was a formative experience. Initially, much of my work included feeding, changing, and putting him to sleep, as well as flipping through interactive books and typical infant play. As he became more coordinated, I made sure to include the arts and crafts that had been such an important part of my own childhood. After graduating high school, I took a break from this work for several years as I pursued my own goals of becoming fluent in Spanish through traveling. I later completed a BA in Spanish at Hunter College. I am currently finishing a 2nd BA in Speech Pathology and Audiology. In Oct 2013, I worked as an occasional babysitter for a 2.5yo Read more girl in the West Village, which involved excursions to cafes, the Children's Museum of Art, and hours of playground fun. In Sep 2013 I began working as a salaried part-time live-in nanny every other weekend for a family in the UES. The position involved cleaning and light meal prep, since the 3 children were older, btwn ages 10–14. My experience with this family was very positive, but I found I needed more work hours. I was recommended to a mother in need of a sitter/helper for her 12yo son and worked with them from 2014-2015, but had to find another family when they didn't need childcare over the summer. I had been an occasional babysitter for another UES family with a 3 yo boy and 7yo girl and was recommended to a family with a 6 yo boy. I worked with him from Aug 2015 - Dec 2016, but my new semester schedule conflicts with their needed times. I continue to work occasional weekends for a mother on the West Side with an 2 yo old son. I am now looking for a part-time job of at least 10 hrs/wk. I plan to be in school in NYC for at least another semester. I will begin graduate school in late Aug 2017 and hope to eventually become a school-based speech therapist. My ultimate goal is to work on strengthening the communication skills of children from low-income families to help them develop a stronger sense of agency over their lives and futures.

Maya has worked for our family for about 1 year now. She cares for my son and my daughter, now ages 3 and 5. I have nothing but good things to say about her. Both of my children absolutely love her. When Maya comes over they are always excited to have their "Maya time." When I return, they are always engaged in some project, game, or conversation. I also feel comfortable with her taking them out to the park. She is responsible and watches them closely en route and plays with them at the park. Not that they would go far anyway, as they are excited to walk with her and talk. She is consistent and punctual and has worked hard to meet me at last minute requests (sick child and I need to work), or even my changing schedule. She has all the qualities you want in a person watching your child. She makes the time fun and enjoyable for the children, and I feel comfortable about their well-being when I am away.
