I grew up in a big family. Though my sister and I were the only siblings in my immediate family, I was the oldest cousin of eight and with that came the responsibility of babysitting everyone around me all the time. I began my true babysitting career in middle school. Friday and Saturday nights were spent watching young children and some summers were spent being a camp counselor. I have only really had two true passions throughout my lifetime, children and fashion. Ever since I was a child, fashion was in my DNA. I would raid my mother's closet and prance around the house in high heels and evening gowns. I was drawn in by the glamour of this world and quickly began to think how I could become part of it. After graduating from the University of Maryland with a degree in Communication Studies, I was eager to start Read more my career in the fashion industry. When I began working at Saks Fifth Avenue almost seven years ago, this dream of mine was within reach. I quickly moved up the corporate ladder and began to truly establish my career as a respected buyer in the fashion industry. As the years came and went, I began to feel myself slowly slipping away from this world. The allure was gone; the sparkle was merely a distant flicker. Somehow the latest trends in jeans didn't ignite the fire that I once had. At thirty years old, I was at a crossroads. I quickly realized that my true passion is children and I have decided to change my path. I have recently been accepted to go back to school for a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Special Education in New York City and I will begin my program in the Fall. I know that teaching is not an easy task. Every day may pose new challenges and hurdles that I will need to overcome. However, the reward of changing a child's life is truly immeasurable. As my focus will be children with special needs, I want to give them the knowledge and power that will allow them to find true success in their lives. By helping children find their passions and dreams, I know that in the process they will be helping to fulfill mine. As I begin this new journey, I would also love to have an opportunity to nanny this summer. I think it would be an amazing experience and I look forward to any exciting opportunities that may come my way.
