I am an experienced educator and special needs/accessibility specialist currently accepting Manhattan & Brooklyn-based clients. I have worked within the Education sector in a variety of capacities, including full-time classroom teaching, individualized & small group academic support, academic enrichment, creative play, after school programming, senior care, and STEM-focused outreach & program development. In this capacity, I have substantial experience working with individuals across the lifespan. My expertise is in STEM (science, math, engineering, arts, & design thinking), homework help, academic coaching, study skills development, academic enrichment, and Maker education (http://makerfaire.com/maker-movement/). I am warm, nurturing, creative, inquisitive, and fun, but am able to be strict when necessary. I am currently working on my Grades 7-12 NY State Science Education Certification & Maker Education Certification. I completed my MS in Neuroscience at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2015, and I completed my BA in History of Science & Biomedical Sciences at Read more Columbia University in 2009. I have been babysitting since age 12 and I have worked as a summer nanny in the past. ISince college, I split my time between education work, academic research, and childcare & enrichment. I am a native English speaker have been living in NYC for 11 years & I am originally from New England. I have also lived in Germany & China. I love spending time outdoors, art & DIY projects, building things, working on Maker projects, going to the park, going to museums, immersing myself in the NYC arts scene, traveling, doing yoga (which I am happy to do with your child or elderly loved one), meditation, cooking healthfully & mindfully, and coloring books. I am not interested in plopping children in front of the TV, computer, or ipad, though I feel that these more passive activities definitely have their place. As both an educator and a caretaker, I approach my work holistically, and take the whole individual and his or her needs into account. I have experience working with a variety of special needs, including ADHD, ASD, SPD, Dyslexia, EFD, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Cystic Fibrosis, Asthma, Allergies, Alzheimer's, Dementia, aging-related independence & mobility issues, and many other challenges.
