Kathleen’s Bio

About Me
-Commitment: 1 year: available for overnight newborn care (previously worked 9pm-6am), date nights, weekends (day and night), holiday/birthday parties, and travel/ family holidays
-15 years of experience: overnight newborn care, date night, house sitting, child care/tutoring and holiday/birthday parties with 10+ children
-Cared for children as young as 3weeks old to teenager ( as many as 4 children)
-Currently I work for a wonderful family on the Upper West Side who has 2 girls (11 and 10), after school from 3pm-7 p.m. (M-F): Sometimes I do not work on Fridays.

-I am applying to nursing school this Fall for an expected start date of Fall 2016

-People often ask me "Why do you like to babysit?": The answer is very simple. I enjoy babysitting and it's fun. I made a career move from business to nursing so naturally I enjoy all aspects of caring for others. I have been really lucky to have worked for so many families who have been very good to me throughout the past 15+years. Plus it's an honest way to pay and save for nursing school.

It is important to me that I am a good fit for the family. When I'm babysitting I want the parents to trust me and feel comfortable leaving their kids with me while we play. Babysitting should be fun!

Kate actually never even made it through the door of my house. She was supposed to be here at 10 and come 10:30 i gave her a call and she said she was almost there. I asked her why she was so late and she said she sent me an email..which i never got. Then she told me she was late because of traffic. After further discussion she told me she left her house 20 minutes late. She never called me and i feel this person is highly irresponsible and would never call her again

Provider's Response

In rebuttal Ms. Nancys comment that she left on my profile. It was an unfortunate event that I was running late and the emails that I sent her stating that I was running late, apparently she did not received. I understand Nancys frustration, mother hood is the most important and privileged job any women could have. If I could have had it my way I would have been there on time, but I cant control traffic. But on a side note for all busy parents, babysitters or people with busy lives, there have been multiple times where the parents of children I babysit for are running late, or loose track of time. I would in no circumstance even think about raising my voice to a mother and father because they are running late or any pressing situation. Life happens, and that is totally fine, however I guess Mrs. Nancy believes that yelling and such abuse is ok. Running late happens to a lot of people. Maybe because you run into an old friend, pop into a store, stuck in traffic, or realize you did not plan enough time to get everything done that you needed to on your long To Do List. To prove to Ms. Nancy that I am not a liar and open the waves of communication and try to repair the damage I forwarded the email I sent earlier that morning stating that I was running late, in addition to traffic. As we all known, NYC traffic is always trick! She proceeded to unnecessarily scold and called me a liar about traffic. Once again, we all know how tricky NYC traffic can be! Nevertheless, she hung up on me, ending the first conversation. I understand she has a child to attend to, no problem. Then I called her again and she did not pick up, so I left a voicemail calmly asking if she would still like me to babysit. The third time I called she apologized to me for yelling and getting upset. However, then she proceeded to yell and scold me again (why did she apologize in the first place?), followed by calling me a liar. As a babysitter I do not believe that any type of name calling or yelling should be permitted nor is it permissible in any situation. But then again, that is my rule of thumb and obviously not Ms. Nancys. At the end of the conversation she threatened me stating that she would write a terrible note on my profile and as you can see that is what she did. As an educated and well spoken woman I believe that situations like this could have been avoided with better communication and the understanding that life happens. Hopefully Ms. Nancy will find another babysitter who will take her abuse. But as far as I am concerned no human being should be treated like such. Above all I take this situation very seriously; this is by no means a minor altercation. The words that are attached to my name in my profile are considered slander, illegal in a court of law and not a representation of who I am as a babysitter. I phone Ms. Nancy requesting that she take the comment off my profile and she yelled once again and goes “SUE ME. Yet again, I do not condone such behavior. After reading what she wrote on my profile I promptly reported Ms. Nancy to Sittercity stating what had transpired, the abuse, illegal slander, along with all the emails I sent her (which she apparently did not receive) to prove that this is by no means a representation of who I am. I only wish the best for Ms. Nancy and hopefully she can find a great babysitter on Sittercity since it is a great website to meet prospective babysitters!

My standards are extremely high, and I believe Kate is an excellent babysitter. She has been working for us for almost a year. I have known her to be very prompt, professional, enthusiastic and caring with my toddler boys (2yrs & 16 months.) She is very capable at handling multiple tasks, meal preparation, educational and age-appropriate pretend play. Kate has been very communicative via phone & email. She even comes through on last minute appts. A joy to work with! Thanks Kate :)

Kate came just once (we are moving), but she was great! She is very friendly and proved extremely capable with my son and my niece, both just 12 months old. She did an excellent job caring for the two babies for several hours and was also very responsive with emails and telephone messages. Thanks Kate!
