When I was about 8 years old, my mom gave birth to my baby sister in hopes that I'd have a companion to sooth my boredom. With a difference of 8 1/2 years, you'd expect us to sort of hate each other, or for me to be constantly annoyed at her. But the weird thing is, she's like my best-friend. The age gap makes me act as a parental figure towards her, yet I am able to understand her really well. I've been taking care of my younger sister while my parents were out working since I was about 15. At family-friend functions, since I am the oldest teenager there, I am the designated baby sitter of not only my own sister, but the children of my parent's friends. I watch over all the children there, while the adults socialize. Because of these experiences, I am more than capable of Read more taking care of children for long periods of time. I am a member of a co-ed service fraternity called Alpha Phi Omega. APO is dedicated to giving back and helping the community, so doing service and working isn't something that I'm being forced to do, but something I enjoy doing. I have experience working with children from ages 1-14. On wednesdays, I volunteer at an afterschool program designated for children that come from underprivileged families. This free program allows parents to go work while we take care of their children. Whenever I travel abroad to Burma, I volunteer at an orphanage, making sure to feed them, and interact with them.
