I have been overseeing and teaching kids of all ages, either as a theater educator (summer camp counseling, weeklong Shakespeare intensives, and actor coaching) or as an academic tutor since I was in middle school. I am Red Cross-certified for pediatric first aid/CPR/AED, and have been responsible for anywhere from one to 65 kids at a time. As an academic tutor, when I lived in Chicago, I was trained by the organization that employed me (Nurturing Wisdom) in many efficient and tested methods for strengthening academic skills, encouraging focus, and building receptiveness to (and an interest in) learning, but much of what I continue to apply in these departments comes from personal experience with the students themselves, whether it's teaching for particular standardized tests, general skills like reading comprehension and organization, or particular academic subjects like pre-calculus. I've lead (often alone) ambitious educational enterprises, both domestically and abroad, and love Read more to engage with kids, whether it's imparting a new skill set, or learning from them regarding the things about which they are passionate. I have always erred on the side of respecting the intuitiveness and perceptiveness of kids, and this mentality has been gratified by the impressive things my pupils or campers have been able to pick up on and come up with. I have encountered many situations in which I am tasked with conveying information to children who may not be predisposed to enjoy the subject they've been signed up to learn, and I've also experienced a broad range of behavioral tendencies, and I delight in devising strategies for making sure the children in these cases are somehow made to feel like their time is being well-spent. I have a wide variety of interests that lend themselves to kids in athletic, cultural, creative, or academic settings, and I have the experience to enforce these interests. I love being even a small part of a developing person's growth, as such opportunities have contributed immensely to my own development.
