I am originally from Southern California and moved to New York about 4 years ago for my first year of college at The Fashion Institute of Technology. Recently, I have discovered that nannying may be my "thing." As a teen, like the majority, I babysat little ones for the neighbors (2 year olds - preteens). One neighbor in specific that I looked after did have special needs that I had watched over from the time they were my neighbors from across the street (I began watching him from age 4 and until I moved away.) As I progressed into high school, I found myself tutoring chemistry for a peer classmate who has an illness/disability that made it difficult for him to attend classes. We hit it off and even after we both past chemistry with flying colors, I made it to all the birthdays and video game sessions he invited Read more me to! Next, I made myself available for parents to contact me to tutor math, where I assisted mainly elementary kids learning the basics. During the summer with not much tutoring gigs available and with my friend going off to college, she suggested I would be great for taking over her job - as an Activities Coordinator for a nursing home! Fortunately, activities were similar to my babysitting jobs! Games, talking, attention, feeding and even occasional trips to markets. I deeply enjoyed learning, conversing and helping these people. Coming from parents who are both nurses, I guess it ran in my blood. That was the last position I had before moving to NY. Whereas now, my retail sales experience became more dominant. Unfulfilled by the constant mindset of selling as well as searching more into different hobbies and learning what I like, I was referred to Sittercity by a friend who is currently working for a wonderful family. She urged me that I may just be cut out for this! I am caring with a huge heart, and with my entire family all the way in California, nannying may just feel a little closer to home!
