Nannying has been a truly rewarding career for me. It is a genuine pleasure to be a part of a child's life as they learn and grow physically, emotionally, and intellectually. From 1994 untill 2003 I was a live-in nanny working for five families. After that followed a short period during which I focused on my studies at S.U.N.Y. Purchase College, earning a B.A. in Art History and nearly completing a second B.A. in Visual Art. I also had a part-time babysitting job caring for two adolescent girls at this time. My most recent nanny job lasted nine amazing years, during which time my job requirements evolved into those of a household manager as my charge grew from eleven to twenty years old. My role as nanny is more than just a "babysitter" who feeds the children and sure they are unharmed. When I care for children and adolescents, I Read more look at the big picture, always aiming to help raise independant adults. This means providing enriching activities, getting them outdoors, helping them learn how to be organized, and limiting screentime. I also provide help with homework, studying, and projects (but never do the project for the child). Then there is my role as "parent's helper," doing whatever I can as time allows to make your lives easier. This includes cooking healthy meals for both the children and you, doing laundry, running errands, organizing (closets, pantry, attic, computer files, etc.), gardening, helping with holiday cards, editing photos, creating photobooks, and more. I have many years of experiance working with children who have ADHD and/or borderline Autism, identical twins, three, and six* child families. Excellent references can be provided from a range of sources. * There were six children and two nannies. I was resposible for four children ranging in age from four to eleven years old. Another nanny had charge of the twin toddlers.
