I am the oldest sibling in a family of three children, my brother is four years younger than me, my sister is eight years younger than me. I was the second mom in our family while we were growing up; both of my parents had jobs are were busy working every day after school. As the first born, I had a Scottish nanny for two years, from when I was born until I was two. Following that, I had a nanny from the Philippines for several years. I had a great relationship with my nanny, Bella, from the Philippines. I believe this is why I value the relationship between caregiver and child so deeply. I grew up in a rural town in Southern Ontario. I received my Babysitter's Certificate in the seventh grade; I was in such demand to watch kids and my parents wanted to ensure that I was Read more prepared for anything. Over the last three years, I have worked with 100+ piano students, ranging in ages 3-21. I love the challenge of teaching because it requires a combination of understanding, communication and interest in the child while still requiring a degree of discipline and focus. I also love babies and frequently spend time with my cousin and family friends who have newborns. I'm often told I'm a "natural" whenever I'm handling newborns. I graduated with my Master's Degree in Classical Piano Performance in May from The Cleveland Institute of Music. I am currently a private piano teacher at The Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights as well as a staff accompanist at Kent State University. In addition to my love of teaching, I am interested in dog training. In January 2012, I got my first dog, at the age of 24. She was an eight-week old Boston Terrier. I had an incredible time training her -- she learned to communicate her need to go outside to pee by ringing a bell on the door! -- and hope to open a dog boarding and training program when I have a home of my own. I am also a great cook. I even make my own dog food! I am happy to cook whatever is desired, although I do like to stick to the healthier side of things when possible. I am responsible, honest and flexible. I am able to meet your needs as a sitter, while maintaining a positive relationship with your children.
