I am a PhD student at Ohio State University; my research involves discovering new drugs to treat diabetes. My fiancee (John Woodard IV) and I would love to have kids right now, but we both have to finish our degrees (he's in the same program, but as an organic chemist) and find jobs until that is a possibility. In the meantime, we'd love to babysit your children and get a taste for what it takes. We will be babysitting together on the weekends until January 2015, but then he's moving to San Diego to complete his post-doctoral studies and I may continue sitting on my own. I was a lifeguard for eight years and taught swimming lessons for seven. I taught mommy-and-me, Red Cross levels 1-6, swim team, and adaptive lessons (for individuals over 50 years of age who are afraid of water, and for individuals with intellectual or developmental Read more disabilities). I have training in Red Cross First Aid and CPR. I love playing games with children, especially if they're learning something without even realizing it! I babysat for kids in my hometown neighborhood when I was in high school, and for coworkers when I was working at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. For 3 years, I tutored inner city youth (ages 4-20, from 1st grade spelling tests to calculus and ACT prep) once or twice a week at an after-school program in Omaha. I was president of the Best Buddies chapter at Creighton University; it was a blast organizing events and forming honest friendships with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In my free time, I stay very active, training for triathlons. Sports have always been a big part of my life, and I think kids should be introduced to sports early because they teach valuable lessons about teamwork and commitment. My fiancee is a big, goofy guy who was in the Army ROTC and National Guard before he was honorably discharged for several knee injuries. His B.S. is in Exercise Physiology, and he is 4 months away from his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry. John is great with kids and loves dogs. He is also trained in CPR and tutored other college students throughout his entire undergraduate career. John babysat, or more accurately "raised" his younger brother from the age of 7-18. In addition, he coached high school wrestling for 3 years in Orlando, FL. We're both grown adults (26 & 31) with full-time jobs, so we're punctual, responsible, and reliable. Pay is negotiable; we care more about the experience for when we have our own kids.
