I'm currently a graduate student attending the Ohio State University for my Masters in Fine Arts. I am also an undergraduate instructor for English Composition. For the past two years I have been on the leadership staff of a YMCA summer camp, Camp Combe, for the Service Corps program, and for three years before that I was a traditional camp counselor. I was also a counselor for Sister Pats' Kids Camp for children with sickle cell anemia and cancer, and am trained to deal with children with various illnesses, both physiological and psychological. I am also trained and certified in CPR/First-Aid/RTE. I've worked with children from the ages of 5-15, but am also capable of caring for younger children as well. On a more personal level, I'm a big fan of literature, film, music, and the arts, and often use these interests to engage children in activities that might be Read more new and exciting to them. I think artistic development is very important and sometimes overlooked. I believe that children should learn how to express themselves at a young age, and that will hopefully foster empathy, understanding, and self-awareness in them. Creative development is where I have been most engaged in child-care, and it is the reason why I enjoy working with kids. There is something really powerful in giving a child the tools to create something new, and to see their reaction to their own creation.
