I am a kind, fun, bubbly, yet stern, active mother and stepmother of 6 children who all live with my husband and I. This experience has made me very patient, a good listener, and excellent at multitasking. That experience along with my bachelor's in Integrated Mathematics (math education) were great tools in my most recent career as a second grade school teacher at a private Christian school. I worked as a teacher until the recent birth of my daughter (born Sept. 30th), at which time my husband (a high school assistant principal) and I decided that, with the demands of his job and our already large but recently expanded family, it would be best for me to do child care and education from home. As a mother and school teacher caring for the daily needs of children of all ages for the past several years, I can say that my Read more experience in child care is extensive. As a mother, I wear the many hats of motherhood which vary from nurse, counselor, chef, taxi driver, to event planner, housekeeper, tutor, and as any parent knows, the lists goes on and on. In addition to my many hats of motherhood, being a mother in a blended family has made me sensitive to the individual needs of children, and very aware and conscious of the imprints that I make and allow others to make on their lives. As an educator, I believe that the young mind is very curious, and that starting early definitely has its long-term advantages. I believe in the importance of reading, and that education should be fun. Because of this, I read many different types of books that open up the imagination and allow a child to think. I use songs, games, and different activities to encourage active learning. I also do arts and crafts, and use physical activity as tools to engage every type of learner.
