I really enjoy working with kids. It is one of the most rewarding things I have known. Children are great life teachers. Most recently, I was caring for a 19 month old busy boy for two 8 hour days a week, plus as needed, for the last four months. We enjoyed parks, snacks, nature, and naps. His parents are good friends of mine who needed help filling a gap between his normal sitter and daycare. Prior to this, I would help out on weekends with a friend's daughter spanning from when she was 8 years old to 10 years old. We would go out and have the best girl's days, go to the beach, or just stay at home and do arts and crafts. I also have experience mutli-tasking childcare with farm chores and housekeeping. I stayed with a family on a dairy farm for a few months, set up Read more through Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF.) My WWOOF family had a two year old and 11 year old. The 11 year old was pretty independent, but I was around if he needed me. Their two year old would come "help" me with chores while her mother did deliveries. Of course, my very first babysitting experience was caring for a younger family member. I would periodically watch my cousin who is five years younger than me. My childcare experience wasn't sought out; they were just situations that presented themselves based on who I was close to and needed help or where I was, but I appreciated every moment. Spending time with kids keeps one in tune with what's important in life, they show you how to embrace life as well as how to easily let things go. I move around a lot, so if you're looking for long term care and aren't interested in bringing someone into your life that may only be around for a year, I'd understand. I believe honesty is important, just as much as loving care.
