Meet Nora

Hi, my name is Nora. I am 35 years old, and I live in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Portland with my husband, 12 year old step-daughter, and kitten Bitey Biter. I am the eldest of 6 children, have been a private childcare provider for most of my professional life, and I have worked with many, many children during that time. I have experience with a wide variety of ages as well as physical and mental developmental issues, I have worked privately, through various agencies, and through the Multnomah County Developmental Disability Services Division. I am now a nursing student at PCC and a licensed CNA. I have lived in Oregon for just over 6 years, and I have worked for a half-dozen families during that time. I started with one family when their first child was 3 months old. He is now 6, and his younger brother is 4. Two Read more other children, I have known since approximately 9 months of age. They both started kindergarten this year. I am a very active caregiver. I always take children for an outing unless the conditions are too dangerous for some reason (strong winds, extreme cold, high UV rating). I enjoy taking children for bus and MAX rides with or without a destination. I take them for pajama walks to look at holiday lights or the moon. I am the sort of nanny who will encourage your child to sample new fruits at the grocery story, to touch moss or watch a slug cross a path in Forest Park, and to shout in places with a good echo. I am the master of bath and bedtime. I am looking for positions that will fit around my classes and clinical rotations. Ideally, this will include primarily evenings and weekends. I am available for late nights and overnights as well. I have much more extensive, nursing based background checks available, in addition to the background checks available through this site, and I will provide reference information at the time of any scheduled interview.

Only interviewed her for 30 minutes, so take this review for what it is: a first impression! Nora's profile inspired me to contact her, she writes herself as fun, engaging and sensitive. I'd say the first two might be accurate but not the ladder. When asked about her discipline style some of the things she mentions are: - locking a kid in the bathroom for time-out (while she is just outside the door) - she imposes rules such as "don't create a drama where there is none", "if we play pretend I have to be (the sitter) the "bad guy", "no crying for no reason", etc. - "pinching" necked bottoms for teasing/fun - calling a kid she cares for a "bad child", when asked to elaborate she could only explain it through the child personality trait (not about environment, circumstances, etc.) Overall, I got a sense that she employs more authoritarian style of discipline and does not try to go beyond the child's behavior to gather empathy and compassion for what is going on in the child's mind. Again, only first impression since she never actually baby set my kids. It might work well if this is the style the family has as she said to have continuity of care with several families.
