I love working with kids because of their raw joy, creativity, and compassion. I graduated from Reed College in 2015 with a degree in Spanish and starting working at a bilingual preschool in Portland the next fall. I became passionate about teaching Spanish and love to incorporate that into childcare whenever possible. I have been a babysitter for over three years. I babysat a precocious toddler and together we had a blast feeding slugs to my chickens, playing with plastic frogs during bath time, and building towers out of boxes. I babysat a 3 year old girl who loved to read books, play with her kitchen, and push around her baby stroller. I volunteered for over two years in a refugee apartment complex in Portland caring for kids from diverse backgrounds, ages 3-10, while their parents took English classes. We played board games, put together puzzles, played outside, and colored. Read more I have been a camp counselor for two summers in Rural Retreat, Virginia. At A.R.E. Camp I led activities with children from all different ages: collage, nature walks, tag, sports, painting, letter writing, and more. These experiences taught me the importance of learning what makes each kid excited about the world and finding a way to foster that. By working with kids in a variety of situations, I have learned to be open and patient. I think it is fun to learn about and support kids' interests, thoughts, and strengths. Ultimately kids teach me just as much as I teach them.
