Hi! My name is Megan, and I absolutely adore children. When I was twelve years old, I took a babysitter certification class - and soon after that, I was "employed" by a local church to run their in-service nursery program. This job required me to look after up to ten children per event, their ages ranging from infant to five years old. I retained that job until I moved away three years later. I then took up volunteering for childrens' events at my local library. Three separate years, I coached two teams of children aged six to eleven in their summer reading "Battle of the Books" program, in which the children read a list of books determined by the county library. With my help, we played games and set up faux-tournaments each week in which the children answered questions about what they read - all in preparation for the big Read more tournament at the end of the summer. Twice, I coached winning teams. I have never been so proud, especially knowing that every single child had fun while learning and loving books. I have also assisted in directing multiple childrens' theatre camps. My duties during these were to help cast and direct a musical production starring all of the talented children attending the camp. I helped the kids make sets, costumes, props, and even ran lines with them. This was so, so, so fun. Having done it two summers in a row, I was able to witness children from the previous year who had once been so shy they could barely stand onstage without shaking, transform into confident young people - holding their own and fearlessly taking on main characters. As an actor myself, this especially warmed my heart. Nothing is more rewarding than watching a child come to believe in themselves. I am college educated, with a BA in Theater (which means I'm pretty good at thinking on the spot and improvising!) and I am currently attending the two-year certificate program at the Portland Actors Conservatory.
