Hi there! My name is Maia and I've been a babysitter/nanny for 11 years! I moved to Portland from Dallas, TX in 2011 to attend Portland State University. I am currently working as a nanny for a 4 year old boy and twin 15-month old girls (of whom I've been with for a year and a half). Before my current family, I was working as a nanny for a family with a two-year-old boy and a 10-year-old boy with severe ADHD. This gave me the wonderful opportunity to work with a child with ADHD to assure that he is striving for greatness and perfection! In the past, I have worked for families with children ranging from newborn to 11 years of age. Some of the daily duties I have experience with are: working with twins, caring for newborn twins (and a toddler at the same time), homework help/tutoring, cooking, professional-level Read more housekeeping, transporting children to and from various events, camps, sports practices, school, etc. I have spent the majority of my time with toddler-age children, therefore I am an expert with that age group! I am willing and very used to being on my feet and being active with children as I believe that sedentary activities do not stimulate healthy brain function or a healthy lifestyle! I make it a rule to be as exhausted as the children are by the end of the day! Eventually I would like to become a Montessori teacher, so I strive to allow the children to express themselves through creative activities such as arts and crafts, make-believe, and activities that involve using all of the senses. I encourage the children to be independent - for example, rather than putting all the puzzle pieces in place for them, I allow them to work through it and figure it out themselves. This tends to lead to higher levels of self-confidence and their ability to take on other tasks on their own. I love to cook and love to involve the children in the preparation process (measuring, pouring, mixing). I am very responsible and careful to not put the children in dangerous situations such as being close to the stove, etc. Things I love to do with children: read books, play outside, arts and crafts, play board games, make up our own games, make believe, building (legos, blocks, etc) and build forts! I love pets - I have a dog of my own and I think all pets can be great companions for children! I hope to meet with you soon! Maia
