Hi there! I am a para-educator for Portland Public Schools. I will attend graduate school at Portland State and get a master's degree in both general and special education. I am interested in caring for all children including those with special needs. I especially enjoy working with children on the autism spectrum. Let me tell you a little about my child-care experience: I baby-sat through high-school and occasionally in college. I have baby-sat for children ages 1-11. I have been working as a para-educator this school year, and have enjoyed it immensely. I was hired to be a full-time substitute. This job has taken me to many of the schools in the district and given me the opportunity to work with lots of different students. My teaching experience includes: -3 years teaching summer art classes at Art Adventures Day Camp -One year full time teaching English in South Korea My Read more style of care-giving focuses on fun, productive, educational activities. I like doing art projects like making books, sewing, or doing nature projects. I am a vegetarian, and I enjoy cooking healthy food for children. I like to let the children help cook by having them mix, smash, spread, or pour. I believe that children learn more effectively when they are given choices. I have confident ability in teaching social and emotional skills as well. I have a lot of patience for children who need extra time to learn these skills. I believe that visual and/or auditory prompts are very effective in teaching these skills. I use elements from my own mindfulness practice in teaching tolerance. I am available to tutor children as well. I have taken a course on teaching elementary math, and elementary language arts instruction. As a para-educator I led reading, writing, and math groups in schools. I also have a year of experience teaching English to speakers of other languages.
