Hi! I am a proud mother of 3 wonderful kids- 10yr girl, 5yr girl, and 2yr boy. I have been a SAHM for the last 10yrs. (I usually work PT as a server, but due to my husbands work schedule, I am trying to stay home FT now) I have 15yrs of experience, caring for other families children; starting at the age of 12 with a "babysitter course," and CPR/First Aid/certification later in Life. (The knowledge has stuck, but the cert has since expired, I am looking to go be officially certified soon). I obtained my B.A. of Science at Central Pennsylvania College in Business/Human Resources. I took a lot of my free classes in things that interested me- child behavior/psych, child development, and sociology. I also have experience in caring for children and adults with special needs. My mother worked in an adult group living home for most of Read more my life; 16 yrs. A lot of the people she cared for were often brought home for special outings and holidays. I often visited my mother at her place of employment, as she worked very long shifts at times. When I got older, I volunteered my time to go in and give manicures. I learned a lot from my mother's knowledge and my volunteering opportunities. As a mother myself, my 2nd child was "diagnosed" with a sensory processing disorder-she is a seeker with just a couple avoidance issues, but not on the autism spectrum, along with a speech delay, and some behavioral issues. (She is currently a thriving kindergartener with little to no issues) Throughout our journey with trying to get her the help she needed (I only believe in medication as a last resort. Surprisingly, the pediatric office we used to go to disagreed, and believed in it as a 1st resort), so went went our own route with Early Intervention and worked with 3 therapists- Speech, Behavior, and Occupational-as well as a Special Instructor, for almost 3yrs, 1hr a week, per therapist. Being an involved and very hands on mother, I was able to learn a lot about other disorders and all about Sensory Processing Disorder. As well as techniques, strategies, and different methods to deal with behavior, seeking/avoiding, and also how to work with children who are having speech issues. I believe in a structured day, according to age/needs of child. Learning is best through play and hands-on activities. A home environment, where #s are small, is sure to provide children with the education, fun, and nurturing they deserve. Contact me today for more in
