I was a babysitter in my teenage years, playing board games and doing homework with the kids down the street. I was a Japanese tutor throughout college. But that was nothing compared to what I've been through this past year. Throughout the whole of 2013, I helped my boyfriend care for his three little ones (and sometimes the fourth one) when I came to visit on Sundays. I take them to the playground, to Sesame Place, we play baseball outside. I cook them lunch, give them baths. We play board games and video games. I make them clean their room only to come in and play with their toys with them, watch Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and completely mess up the room again. Now my weekends are filled with laughter, crying, whining, fighting, sleeping, and more laughter. All before we end the night by eating Grandmom's deserts before brushing Read more their teeth and going to bed. I have become "Stepmom Damanna," as the 10 year old calls me. (The little ones can't pronounce my name and the big one thinks it's funny, and so do I).
