I am an only child who grew up in a small town community with an even smaller high school. I have been a competitive swimmer for about 16 years and I still continue to swim in college. I love to cook/bake, sew, scrapbook, and have fun! Currently, I am heading into my last semester at a Christian college (Messiah College) as a Psychology major. Originally my plans were to stay home and attend graduate school for couples counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy, however now I want to gain experience in other areas and broaden my horizons away from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. While I have not had experience with siblings, I have had experience with children and teens in both a professional and casual setting. Since I was little I have done volunteer work in soup kitchens and men's homes during the Holidays, volunteered with my church's Jr. High youth group Read more Tuesday nights, & volunteered with my church's VBS program during the summer (grades 1-5). I have also participated in 4 missions trips that included a variety of tasks (Boys and Girls Clubs, construction/maintenance, outreach). During middle/high school, I helped coach younger age groups on my summer league swim team. As a college student, I have taken courses in counseling and have been required to practice therapeutic techniques and interventions with my own peers and classmates. Up until two summers ago, I worked at the local pool as a lifeguard as well as giving swim lessons part-time. I have also worked as a resident care assistant with a local nursing home for residents who suffered from Dementia and Alzheimers. This job required my to not only spend time with the residents, but provide basic care needs as well (bathing, dressing, laundry, etc).
