My experience goes like this... When I was studying at URI over the last couple of years my mom coaxed me into putting myself out there as a tutor on craigslist and to my surprise I got some inquiries...so I started tutoring. I taught high-schoolers and middle-schoolers one-on-one as well as a group of first-graders for a while. Mostly I was teaching Spanish because that was my forte and major at URI but I helped kids get organized and sorted out other subjects too. So that started in 2010 and continued up until this year. But I gave my students a break in last summer, 2013, after I graduated, when I took a trip to Spain to live with a family as an Au Pair. I took care of my host family's two sons, ages 7 and 10, as well as their mountain of friends who would come over during Read more the week. (That's one really cool thing about Spain is the close-knit groups of families that all hang out and send their kids off to learn English from the American...they got a good deal with me haha). So I lived on the island of Mallorca for three months and it was a blast and a vacation and a learning experience all in one. When I came back in the fall I decided to go for a ESL certificate so I could teach across the globe when I travelled. And as I took the course I got a substitute permit so I could sub on the side and get more experience teaching children. In January of this year I went to India to study Ayurvedic Medicine and Yoga and my plan was to teach ESL in South Korea after that but like the many great people who visit India I got really sick so I came home after 5 months. But now I realize there's a lot of opportunities for me at home in RI. I'll be studying at CCRI in the fall to pick up some science credits I need in order to go to grad school for Naturopathic Medicine--that's the plan... So for anyone who needs a sitter during the week, I'll be available every day until around 5pm because I have night classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
