I began caring for children at a young age in my church nursery and have continued to care for children of various ages in differing settings ever since. I volunteered with the babies and toddlers in the nursery at my church starting at age 11 where I realized my love for children. Around this same time I began babysitting for family friends and continued throughout middle and high school. The children I looked after ranged from about 2 years of age to 10 which gave me invaluable experience and taught me a great deal about how to best care for children of various ages. Once I began college I knew I wanted to continue to work with kids in any capacity possible. I worked as a summer camp counselor for 8 - 11 year old girls. I was responsible for about 20 to 30 campers on a daily basis. As Read more a counselor, I helped plan and execute various fun and educational activities, took the campers on weekly field trips, put on weekly "skit" competitions amongst the various age groups, and always made sure to keep the campers as active as possible. Although each counselor was assigned a specific age group, we did many activities collectively as a camp which gave me the opportunity to work with kids from the ages of 6 to 14. This experience combined everything I love about caring for children and taught me more than I could have imagined. I will soon be graduating from Clemson University with a degree in Industrial Engineering but I plan to take some time off and pursue my passion for teaching children before entering the Engineering field. I will be moving to the Czech Republic to teach English to young children. Although I will be moving, I would love to spend the summer before I leave caring for children full-time. I couldn't imagine spending my time before my move any other way.
