I grew up in a large family with four brothers and three sisters. I was number five in the bunch and by the time I was 8 I was helping my mom with the three younger ones, changing diapers, reading stories and helping with mealtime. That experience made me into a naturally caring person with younger kids. I started helping out in the church nursery as soon as I was allowed and have continued that into my adult years. Now I babysit my niece and nephew as well as friends' kids whenever I can. I am branching out to other people's children because I've been told I have a knack for making kids feel at ease and know how to play on their level. I do believe in the right kind of discipline when it is warranted, but it needs to be delivered in a gentle yet assertive manner.
