**I am available to babysit and tutor part-time in the evenings and weekends** Hello! My name is Katie. I'm a former full-time high school English teacher, cross country coach, and tutor, and I recently relocated to the Charleston area from Northern Virginia. I would like to find a great family in the area to babysit for or tutor. I'm the oldest in my large family, and I've taken care of my siblings and cousins at different ages and stages, and I have babysat for many other families over the years. My educational and professional background is in public health, communications, and education. I have a Bachelors of Science degree and a Master of Public Health degree, as well as my Virginia Teaching License in English/Language Arts Grades 6-12. I taught 11th grade English for four years with a class load of approximately 130 students each year. I enjoyed teaching and Read more my students - it was a challenging and rewarding job. It was important to me to establish a positive rapport with each class and student as I believe in the mantra "they don't care what you know until they know that you care." My friends and family would describe me as warm-hearted, energetic, genuine, conscientious and having a good sense of humor, all of which are excellent qualities to exhibit when caring for children. My hobbies and interests include running, hiking, cooking, baking, traveling, and reading. I have previously been certified in Adult CPR and First Aid (an annual requirement for coaching). In addition, I was a certified EMT until 2006. I'm also able to help you with light housework, transportation, cooking, homework and tutoring, pet care and other household needs.
