My first job was in May 2012 till October 2013 at my local Robertson County YMCA. I was a Childcare Attendant. I was responsible for 6-week-old babies to 12-year-old children, cleaning, chart work, activities, and education courses. I picked up extra shifts by setting up and working birthday parties. Saturdays and Sundays I did an early Kid's Gym. Some nights there was a special date night child care shift for the YMCA's parents. You learn to be alert and aware at all times. Multi-tasking in a hectic and fast pace environment has taught me to handle situations in a strategic and calm mindset. You can't calm a baby if your upset! Especially if you are trying to get 4 babies to stop crying with 18 other kids screaming on the other side of the room. I still found this job personally rewarding. During my time working there I was OSHA Read more lifeguard certified, educated through monthly child abuse courses, and I learned how to take care of children/babies. The YMCA made sure to teach me everything and then some on taking care of our member's children. Considering I was always talking to mothers and fathers all the time, they also taught me a lot as well. I no longer am certified since it has been five years since I worked in childcare. I have had some bad look with self employment this past year. I look towards getting a job that will bring livable income and a job to be happy about since childcare is something I actually enjoy doing.
