It's a pretty funny story about how I got the nickname "The Baby Whisperer"! It all started when I gave birth to my first daughter. She was the apple of my eye, and she smiled all the time. Then, I had my second daughter, a colicky child, but I found out how to help her best and she, too, was a happy baby. Later, I ran my in-home summer camp the year before becoming a childcare supervisor at my children's private school. I was a very active parent and when a supervisor was needed, I was offered the position. I gladly accepted and ran the childcare program for 4 years. With a staff count as low as 6 and as high as 12, we cared for children ages 6 mos to 12 years old during evening hours, mostly. I successfully managed the child care for large events, as well, which Read more sometimes drew as many as 120 children. All children are different. Some of the children we cared for had major challenges such as ADHD and autism. I made sure that we all learned how each child did his/her best and helped steer them toward tasks or activities they excelled in. No child was ever left behind. Even if there were some surprises, I trained my staff well so that we could resolve them in love and as trained. Working with the parents was always something I felt comfortable doing. I can also say that during my tenure as supervisor, we never had any escalated parent complaints about how I ran the program--I was able to foresee and address any potential issues and address them at my level. I have had CPR + First Aid training for adults and children. While I was a childcare supervisor, my son came along. He was nicknamed "The Champ" (as in Muhammad Ali) because of his stocky build and strength as a little baby. Although a bit of a finicky guy, he was also a joyful child. By then, my sister took notice of how well I managed crying, poopy, incoherent babies. When she had her first child, she invited me to stay for a few weeks to help her settle in to Motherhood. I did. While I was there, I showed her how to breast feed, how to pump, save and use breast milk, how to figure out what the baby needs and how to calm the baby with the art of distraction! :-) My sister had a second baby, and I was there again to help her adjust. She nicknamed me "The Baby Whisperer" because I "always know what to do". But, every baby is different--older kids, too. I don't believe in spoiling children or giving them everything they want. I do believe in loving and properly disciplining them. I speak Love languages.
