Hello! My name is Jordan Chaplik. I am 22 years old and just recently graduated from UT with a Bachelor of Arts. I grew up in Highland Park, Illinois, a town right outside of Chicago, and have two younger brothers and two wonderful golden retrievers. This year, I will be working with Americorps as a social worker and tutor at a local Austin middle school and could not be more excited for this opportunity! I have a lot of experience babysitting for families in both Chicago and Austin, with children ranging from a few months old to 12 years old. I love to create fun activities to do with the children I babysit, such as arts and crafts, board games, imaginary games and plenty more! I also worked with Mad Science Austin this past year as a Mad Scientist, in which I traveled to three elementary schools every week to Read more teach various science experiments! Additionally, I have a car here in Austin, and so I have been able to take many of the kids I babysit out to the movies, a park or for frozen yogurt! This summer, I was volunteering at an elementary school in Salasaka, Ecuador, which was an extremely rewarding and incredible experience. I was given the responsibility of Head Teacher to Group 1, whose students ranged from ages 4-6 years old. I taught my students mathematics, reading and writing (all in Spanish), and I believe this experience has given me the tools to become a more capable and enjoyable babysitter. I absolutely love to work with children and look forward to hearing from Austin families in the near future!
