I have been working with children for over 10 years in settings ranging from part-time babysitting to full-time caregiving, and from nonprofit volunteer to full-time teacher. I am comfortable with children as young as infants and have cared for children starting at age four weeks. I have taken children to/from school, camp, and various lessons, and supervised children in swimming and art activities. Prior to moving to Austin in August 2015, I was living in New York City and working at a preschool in a 2-year-old classroom. We were an inclusive classroom, meaning there were children with special needs stemming from both genetic and behavioral disorders, in addition to traditional learners. I helped develop curriculum, facilitate activities, and write thoughtful twice-yearly narratives regarding children's development, to go along with parent-teacher conferences. I also volunteered as a family coach for three years with a community outreach organization that focused specifically on Read more using art as a tool to strengthen communication and confidence between families from low-income backgrounds in New York City. There, I worked with children ranging from ages 3-14 at once-weekly art-making sessions on weekday evenings. Since elder family members were also present, such as parents, aunts/uncles, and grandparents, my primary responsibilities were facilitating negotiation and positive interaction. When I care for children, I believe in doing more than just babysitting. I engage children in activities revolving around art, literacy, science, and more. I believe in spending time getting to know the whole child, and using their interests and desires as a means to motivate them to spend their time meaningfully. Currently, I am looking for part-time work while I address other long term goals of mine. I am both CPR and first-aid certified for all ages, including infant, and have references available upon request.
