I am a bit of a nomad, splitting my time between Austin, my home state of Maine and the rest of this big beautiful planet. I love adventure and travel, and I am currently returning to Austin after a year of backpacking and sailing in Latin America and the Caribbean. I would love to find a peaceful, conscious, loving family to work with in Austin for a couple of months, until the travel bug bites again. However, if I develop a strong connection with a family, I would be happy to stay for a year or two. My diverse experiences as a nanny make me a good match for any family's needs. I am a very responsible 33-year-old female with 12 years of experience as a professional nanny. I have been a full-time, long-term nanny for four wonderful families (1-5 years each) and worked for numerous other families as a Read more night nurse or temporary/vacation nanny. The children I have cared for ranged in age from less than a month to 14 years old. I have experience with multiples, premature newborns, and children with special needs. I am positive, loving, outgoing, thoughtful, and energetic. Staying active and spending time outdoors is important to me. I enjoy taking the children I care for on bike rides, outings to parks, trips to museums, and play dates. For rainy days and inside time I encourage children to tap into their artistic and creative sides with music, art projects, science experiments and impromptu dance parties. School has always been enjoyable for me and I take great joy in inspiring a love of learning in the children I care for. I have taken advanced college courses in math, economics, etc. Therefore, I feel qualified to tutor most subjects. The job of a nanny goes beyond making sure the children are well fed, safe, and entertained. Some of my most rewarding experiences have come from watching toddlers grow to be confident, independent children. I put a great deal of thought into fostering self esteem by being encouraging, supportive, and respectful of children's feelings. It is important to me to allow children to blossom into their own unique selves, helping them figure out how to get their own needs met while respecting the needs of others. I also believe deeply in the power of positive thinking. I would prefer to be as close to downtown as possible (10 miles max), and a live-in position would be ideal. I live simply, enjoy cooking healthy food, and I am very easy going.
