     I am a mother of three grown children and two precious grandsons as well as a retired school teacher( I retired early to work as an instructional coach for other teachers). My love of children began early in life with babysitting and continued while raising my own family and teaching young children. I hope to combine my love of children, my experience as a mother, and my knowledge of early literacy to enhance my role as a babysitter.      I was fortunate to be able to stay home with my children when they were young and I truly enjoyed every minute of it! With my background in child development, I found nurturing babies and interacting with them fascinating. As my children (and our bills) grew, I returned to the classroom.  I  taught kindergarten and pre-kindergarten in both private and public schools for over 25 years. During those years I had both the opportunity and the challenge of working with Read more young children with special needs whether those needs were emotional, physical, behavioral, or academic. I created a nurturing, developmentally appropriate classroom and curriculum with my students leaving my classroom  with a positive self concept, a love of books and a joy in learning. I mentored other Pre-K teachers within my school district and served as an instructional coach when I retired from the classroom.          I have been able to use my knowlege of early literacy while babysitting . Research shows that oral language/vocabulary development is the key to successful readers.  And no better way to do that than with engaging songs, books, hands on activities, conversations, and experiences!  When I babysit, the T.V. and computer will be off unless otherwise requested by the parent. I have been babysitting for over six years now, mostly for families with babies and small children and enjoying every minute of it!
