Hi! I am so glad you stopped by my profile. Let me tell you a little about myself. About a year ago I graduated with my Master's degree in professional counselor with a specialization in child and adolescent mental health/development. I currently work full-time for Williamson County Juvenile Services in the treatment center program for adolescent girls. My clientele are girls who have been repeatedly involved in the juvenile justice system and have extensive histories of trauma in their backgrounds. It is very rewarding work but also very taxing. I currently have my Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern License (meaning I am in the process of earning my full licensure but have to get my 3,000 supervised experience hours). During my final year in graduate school I also nannied full-time for 4 year-old and one-year old little girls. For four years before my current job, I worked at The Settlement Home for Read more Children. This is a treatment center for kids who have been abused/neglected and have emotional or behavioral disorders. Before that I interned for the Girl's Empowerment Network of Austin and co-developed a summer camp for teenage girls fostering self-esteem and leadership skills. During college I nannied for a little boy from a couple months after he was born until he was a little over 2 years old so I have plenty of experience with infants. Also, in high school I babysat for several families multiple times a week who had children between the ages of 3 and 12. Some activities I enjoy doing with kids are reading, walking (especially if there is a dog involved :), going to the playground, crafts, and make-believe. In my free time I love to read (both fiction and non-fiction), spend time with my 7 year-old nephew, Liam and my dog, Siena. A little about my views on child development: -I think playing is an essential way for kids to express themselves. -I think praise and positive reinforcement is a much more effective form of discipline than punishment (not that all punishment is bad). -I love to come up with creative activities from which kids can learn but also have fun. I often get the question- why are you still nannying/babysitting now that you are a licensed child therapist? The reason is that it helps me maintain a positive outlook. I work with kids who have terrible histories and working with well-taken care of kids is a must for me. I love kids and they keep me going. Are we a match? Message me :)
