Hello, my name is Mary Anderson. I grew up in a family of ten children. Growing up, we kept very busy with cooking, gardening, canning, cleaning, yard work and sewing. I can sing, play the piano, cook, knit, crochet, sew, garden and write. I like to write best of all; I write children's stories, traditional poetry and fantasy, historical and romance novels. I graduated at the top ten percent of my class in high school, I am fluent in four languages, and I have had six years of college. I love children and the rewards that come from watching them. When you give to a child, he or she will give to you back. I have watched my own brothers and sisters, children at my church and children of people I didn't know. I have also watched children in daycare settings.         I am originally from Amarillo Texas but Read more I moved to Austin just five and a half years for school. I would work for children without money but unfortunately, I have rent and bills to pay. However, I charge low rates because I have watched children from poor families. Being poor myself, I understand how hard money is to come by, especially in this economy. Starting in August of 2011, I worked as an intern at Texas School for the Blind (1100 W. 45th Street. I tutored students in math, history and braille. I worked with children who had low vision, no vision at all and limited use in one of their hands. I have even worked with multiply-disabled children. After my internship ended, I began work as a substitute, both in the classroom and the dorms. I currently work at the school, but I am looking for work because I have not been getting enough hours. The school is experiencing budget cuts, so they cannot call substitutes as frequently as they would like. They have been using their own staff. I have substitute-taught in math, history, government, economics, braille, literature and science classes. I also monitor children in the dorms. Students come from all over the state of Texas to learn and live at TSBVI (Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired). I have also sat in with sick kids at the Health Center or nurse's office. I love working with the students and watching them learn. Not only do we teach children, but they teach us. They are our role models, and we are their role models. I hold the trust of parents, teachers and supervisors in high regard and would never do anything to break the trust. I am open to constructive criticism and positive feedback.
