Meet Mercy

Although I am from Carrollton, I spent the majority of my childhood in the city of Chiang Mai, Thailand. My parents are missionaries there, and so I lived there with them and my three younger sisters, who are currently ages 16, 13, and 12. Since I was old enough, I always assisted my mother in caring for my younger siblings. Back in Chiang Mai, I always have been highly involved with our children’s program at our home church, Acts Church of Chiang Mai. For five years, I volunteered at the Acts Art Center run by the Acts of Compassion Foundation in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I taught children ranging from the age of 5-13 years of age, piano lessons, violin lessons, and tutored them in English and math. I also worked with our homeschool co-op’s kid’s musical productions and assisted in running backstage. The summer before I moved here, I had Read more the wonderful opportunity to work up in a Karen mountain village at the yearly Global Tribe’s Outreach Children’s Bible Camp. I was responsible for 5 girls, ages 6-10 that week. My tasks included not only teaching them English and helping them in their activity classes, but also making sure that they ate their meals, took their showers, went to bed at the appointed time on the grass mats provided for us, and, of course, had fun! I worked spring semester of 2013 as a girl’s bible study leader for the youth group of Southcliff Baptist Church. Summer of 2013 was full to the brim of with opportunities where I worked with children. I was a counselor with Southcliff Baptist’s Beach Camp and the following week I helped lead their children’s Vacation Bible School (VBS.) I worked for Pine Cove Summer Camps for children. I spent six wonderful weeks working with kids from first grade to 6th grade. I now occasionally work mother-daughter conferences and junior kid’s camps at Pine Cove. I was offered at job this summer at Pine Cove, but had to decline as I wanted to stay in the area as my family is coming here to Dallas, on their furlough. I currently teach 2nd grade Sunday school at my home church, First Baptist Carrollton and work nursery and childcare. I also babysit a 14 month year old boy and this summer will give piano lessons to a 3 year old girl and 9 year old boy. I am experienced with kids ages 1 month to 13 years.
