Hello, my name is Joy. I am 31 years old. I have been caring for regular and special needs and children/adults for over 8 years. I am very passionate about what I do. I really enjoy spending time with them, while helping them and make it fun and exciting. I like to carry on fun conversations while coming up with creative ways to make their daily lives easier and more pleasurable. I love to play games with them and just make their life overall more enjoyable. A lot of my passion came from helping a good friend of mine from childhood that was mentally disabled, schizophrenic, and bipolar. I loved being her friend and helping her out with her daily needs and whatever else she needed. We were very close. My love for helping with the disabled continued when my brother became paralyzed in 1997 and I was his nurse Read more for two years. I helped him out with his daily life and activities. I really loved helping and caring for him. In summer of 2007, I worked full-time for Damar, an organization that helped kids and teenagers with disabilities. I absolutely loved it. I worked with mentally disabled, teenage boys and autistic ones who were sexually abused. I loved helping them with their everyday needs but also being there for them as a friend. In October of 2008 to March of 2009, I worked full-time as a direct care staff member at a group home in Indiana. I worked with mentally and physically disabled adults and it was one of the best experiences in my life. I absolutely loved the clients I worked with. I loved taking them shopping, cooking with them, and helping them with their daily life skills. It was one of the best jobs I had ever had. After March of 2009, I moved to Texas and hoped to start my career here working in the same type of industry. At the same time, I was working at the group home for mentally and physically disabled adults and I was substitute teaching for grades K-12. I helped out a lot in the special needs classrooms in the school districts. I really loved working with the students. I just ended working with 12 year old low-functioning autistic boy and his 8 year old sister for 2 years. I would have continued working with them however, they no longer qualified for the government services which paid me. I recently worked the spring semester for 3 wonderful children. We would play games, go places and overall just have a blast! I would love to work with your child/adult. Feel free to email me at joagilmo@yahoo.com or call me at 972.775.0685. Thank you!
