I've been part-time babysitting since I was about fourteen years old; I started doing it to help out my parents' friends who had functions to attend but were unable to take their children. When I was eighteen, my boss adopted two young children and hired me to babysit during business functions and during business travels. His son and daughter needed love and care, and I feel I provided this, as well as help with their homework for about 3-4 years. Children I babysit hold a special place in my heart - I play their games and correct "bad" behavior (for lack of better words), mainly according to parental guidelines. I do not scold, but I do let them know what they've done "wrong", why it is not appropriate, and how to correct it. Currently, I have cared for two sisters for about two years, and they are a joy to Read more have. I used to babysit on weekends, and some weekdays, but now I babysit once a week, and I pick them up from school to take them to gymnastics practice. Thank goodness, I have never had any problems or issues arise, but I do keep my CPR training current, should I ever need it. Although I have no children of my own, I have helped raise my niece, and I understand the importance of watching a child play and/or joining them instead of simply allowing them to entertain themselves by watching television all night long. I am a great communicator! I have had to cancel on parents only a handful of times in my 10+years babysitting, but have let them know with ample time (called or texted), and cancellations were made only due to extreme circumstances.
