My name is Rachel Hiser, I am the eldest of three. I have two younger brothers, Nathan and Daniel, who I grew up watching and who gave me enough trouble that I have learned every trick in the book. I am lucky to say that now we are all very close! I began babysitting professionally when I was thirteen years old, after completing a babysitting course, which gave me CPR certification. This first job was during the summer and I spent two days a week with two middle-aged girls. We spent the days playing boardgames, playing outside, and doing art and craft activities. Throughout my junior high and high school years, I frequently babysat for one of my teacher's children. Over the course of the five years I babysat for the family they went from having three boys to four boys and a girl. The boys were very high energy, Read more and so we spent a lot of time outside on their jungle gym, until the sweet baby girl and I observed from the comfort of the outdoor rocking chair. I also spent the evenings reading to them and engaging them with coloring books and puzzles. Finally, I spent two summers as a full-time nanny for four boys, whose ages ranged from 14 to 5 (during the first summer). I was in charge of driving each boy to his summer camps, taking them with their friends to local trampoline clubs or water parks, and doctor's appointments. I usually arrived at the house early in the morning so I fed the boys breakfast before helping the younger ones get dressed, tidying up the house and going on any errands for the mother, usually grocery shopping. I truly enjoy getting the opportunity to provide safe care and support to children on a regular basis or as needed. I consider the role of a babysitter to be one that supports the goals of a parent and provides fun and enjoyable experiences for the children.
