I am an undergraduate student studying interdisciplinary humanities at BYU. I hope to graduate in a year and a half, and move on to work in government while working on my masters of public administration. My official job experience, things I put on my resume, are internships for Congressman Chaffetz, Governor Herbert, and a Utah based lobbyist group "Libertas". I do not come from a political family, but my family has always been interested in politics, and I decided I am interested enough to want to change things. In terms of babysitting, I have been working for nearly eight years. I started at 13 watching my neighbors children who were nine and seven. I've done a lot of work for them over the years, but now they're in high school which is surreal. My sister had her first child five years ago, and as a single mom I have had Read more a lot of hands on experience taking care of him. She has since had two more children. It would be ludicrous for me to put an estimate to the amount of hours I have babysat her children. I probably watch them twice a week when I go home, and more often we tag-team so she can more easily get groceries or go the park. We have a lot of fun! Her middle child is four and has non-verbal autism. It has been a difficult adjustment watching him grow and miss milestones his siblings hit. He does not speak or sign. He is extremely sensitive to sounds and touches. He also likes to bite if he doesn't get his way, or worse run. Her home is "autism-proof" we like to say. There are locks to prevent the washer or over from opening. We have installed several locks without knobs so you need a key on each side to open it. And we never go anywhere without his earmuffs. My point being, I do have a lot of experience caring for children with special needs. The reason I want to babysit is I need something flexible, because I will be working an internship and taking classes. I have a lot of fun with my niece and nephew and hopefully playing with your kids will help me miss them less!
