My name is Maria, I am a George Mason University alumni. I have a BS in Criminology Law and Society with a concentration in Homeland Security and a minor in Intelligence Analysis. I am currently a substitute teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools. Prior to being a substitute I worked at a daycare with children 3months-14months. Furthermore, I was a volunteer religious education teacher for 5 years. Throughout my experience as a religious education teacher I had a student with autism, which was a great learning experience. In addition, I had a student who was wheel chair bound and both kids were a great opportunity to grow and learn. As a religious education teacher I have worked with classes that range from 20-30 students, and grades 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7. I love working with children and thinking of creative activities that can keep them occupied. I am also Read more an avid runner and enjoy outdoor activities; I wouldn't have a problem taking kids out for a walk or an afternoon at the park.

Maria has baby sat for my three children 8yo, 6yo & 5yo for over six months. My kids LOVE her and I trust her good judgment and calm manner. She has always been reliable, she has never cancelled a scheduled job and she has been incredibly flexible regarding my schedule changes. She has prepared in advance for a long evening with kids by researching craft projects and arriving with her own supplies to do the projects!!! She always has a number of activities in mind to keep the kids occupied and remains engaged with my highly active kids! Once when Maria was still new to our family, my son had a long day and was already tired when Maria arrived and he didn't want to be with a sitter. He was terribly rude but she remained composed, she balanced giving him his space and setting limits, she expressed clear understanding of developmental issues involved and the next time she came over my son was thrilled to see her. She has picked up my kids from school and drove them to my home then followed an after school routine including homework assistance. She has also been responsible for the kids during the evening routine including meal preparation and tuck-in. When I return home she has cleaned up the house and done the dishes. She typically arrives early and stays after I've returned home to discuss the "transfer of care summary". She has been a fantastic care taker for my kids.

Maria and I corresponded via email, she was very prompt to get back to me. We set up a time for an in person interview. She showed up. She did not seem excited about working with kids. Maybe I got her on a bad day? We decided to work with her on a trail bases. Long story short, the first day she was to start she never showed up. I called her and she did not answer. She text me back shortly giving me a reason, but never called.
