(Update: As of 2/13/2019 I am registered as a Qualified Mental Health Professional with VA.) I graduated from Radford University in May 2014 with a Bachelors of Science in Recreation Therapy. Completed an internship at New York State Psychiatric Institute in Recreation Therapy and moved to NOVA for work as a Recreation Therapist in September 2014 for the state of VA. In January 2015 I became nationally certified as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Recreation Therapy is a service that provides treatments and recreational activities to individuals to improve or maintain physical, mental and emotional well-being. All of my classes focused on learning how to deal with people of any sort and the inclusion of people of any sort. It's about learning to use leisure, relaxation and recreation to help better improve everyday life. I've been professionally dealing with children since 7th grade. Starting with respite care for foster families Read more with my mother and then being a Nanny during the summer once I entered high school, during college I volunteered at a nearby daycare before my classes. I've also had experience volunteering at children camps for the blind and visually impaired, as well as other mild and severe disabilities. Other volunteering opportunities involve the Delaware Ronald McDonald House and Internships with Nemours Health and Prevention Services, a division of Alfred I DuPont children's hospital. Through Sittercity I've done occasional sitting jobs as well as a long term permanent nanny . Dealing with foster children, a daycare and my classes that involve off campus assignments i.e at schools/after school programs I've worked with an assortment of children of abilities, cultures and ages along with supervising multiple children at once. Always when dealing with children I love to become involved, I love playing the game with them, or actually doing the craft with them, not just watching them do it. I love arts and crafts and being creative so I especially love kids who have a big imagination. At the same time I also love being very active I play field hockey, and played soccer and did gymnastics in the past so I also don't mind kids who have a lot energy and love to play. I'm very enthusiastic about my job and always have a smile on!
