Ana’s Bio

I am a part-time college student trying to finish up my associates degree. I left my full-time job as an instructional assistant to pursue my college degree. My goal is to enroll full-time within the coming months to pursue my Bachelor's degree in Interdiscplinary studies. I worked for Arlington Public Schools for about 10 years with children ranging in ages 2-12. I also have many years of babysitting experience. I am fluent in English/Spanish.  I love doing art activities, reading books, playing board games and cooking.

Ana has been working with our family as a babysitter/mother's helper two days each week for two months and we enjoy her so much! My twin toddlers are very active 14 month old boys who keep me and Ana on our toes. Ana is very considerate and responsible if I or she needs scheduling flexibility and, at my request, does not come to work when she is sick. Ana helps us with all manner of childcare duties and a variety of household chores to help keep our home running smoothly. She exercises good judgment and knows when to ask for guidance. And best of all, the boys love her.

I was dissapointed with this sitter. She came to my home we agreed on a start date and fee and I mentioned to her that I currently had nothing on my schedule past march but that something would probably come up later on. After our meeting I sent her an emai confirming our agreement and stated again I could not guarantee work past march but that most likely something will add to my schedule. She replied that she was looking for stability and declined the job offer. I understand we all want stability of work but frankly neither my boss nor my husband's boss would ever give us an absolute guarantee that we will still have our jobs for the entire year and the next and we have been working for a while, however my babysitter who has not even started working needs a guarantee of employment for the entire school year!!! Maybe it's just me but in the current economy it seems a little too ambitious to me!

Provider's Response

At each and every one of my interviews with parents I have stated to them that I am looking for something long term for at least the school year. I am a college student and it would not benefit me to lose my sole income in the middle of my spring semester. This parent told me at our initial meeting on September 1st that she needed someone for at least a year. I sent her a confirmation email of everything we discussed that same day. A few days later she notified me via email that she couldn't guarantee anything past March. At that time I notified her that I would not be able to accept the position since I would need stability throughout my semester. I am sorry that this parent has not been able to find the coverage she needs.
