I am a graduate of the University of Virginia, double majoring in Psychology and Political Philosophy, Policy and Law. I currently work in the UVA Psychology Department as a Lab Coordinator for the Proffitt Perception Lab. During my time at the university and beyond, I have gained a great deal of experience with children between the ages of infancy to adolescence. While a student at UVA, I worked for the Curry School of Education for the Youth Women's Leadership Program (YWLP). This program is for middle school girls at risk of delinquency and is meant to encourage a sense of community and positive role modeling from adults. I also worked with the Preschool Relationships Enhancement Program which helped children develop positive relationships with their preschool teachers. After I graduated, I began working for the United Methodist Church of Charlottesville as a nursery worker. For the last year, I've worked with Read more children between the ages of 3 months and 3 years of age. I am comfortable with bottle feeding, diaper changing, assisting with potty training, and more. While working at the Proffitt Perception Lab, I have been working on a Vision Therapy project to help children between the ages of 8 to 18 with lazy eye and convergence insufficiency. For about four months before moving to Virginia Beach, I was a Residential Counselor at Structured Therapeutic Adolescent Residential Services (STARS), a group home for developmentally and emotionally disadvantaged boys and girls. I am CPR/First Aid certified, and I have also received MANDT Crisis Intervention Training. During my time at STARS, I encouraged residents to develop independent living skills through individual counseling and group lessons on topics such as budgeting, household management, food prepping and cooking, housing options, employment skills through interviewing, gaining and maintaining employment, accessing public transportation, accessing services for physical and mental needs, coping skills, and safety issues and skills. I have worked with children from many different backgrounds and of many different ages. I enjoy spending time with children and I hope to possibly make a career out of it one day. I have considered professional childcare, but am also interested in working as a residential or school-based counselor or possibly work with children who have PTSD. I am a loving, caring, attentive and responsible person who would love the chance to babysit for you!
