Currently, I work full-time in DC and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University. I am applying to nursing schools so am slowly trying to transition away from my full-time work to start school again. I played basketball and track&field during my time in college, and have an abundant amount of energy, so children of all ages are great to be around. I love kids because I can keep up with them and they can keep up with me! Being active both outdoors and indoors is something I enjoy doing, so the kids won't be bored! Alao, being 5’11” I am strong and sturdy, and what my friends call a "friendly giant," so your child(ren) are in safe hands. Though I do not have any official certification or training, I have experience working with special needs children. I have volunteered at my church's KLEMA Ministry for 5 years (2005-2010). KLEMA is a Read more ministry that conducts worship and bible study with the special needs children of our community. It allows members with special needs children to attend service without having to worry about their child. In KLEMA we do not just babysit, we interact and allow the children to enjoy service and bible study at each child's own pace. I set up activities that relate to the topic that day but also work on that child's specific needs, so for example, activities working on the child's hand motor skills. We always helped the children eat lunch before service started. The pastor of that ministry would bring in guest speakers sometimes to educate the volunteers on what exactly it is the children are going through and the different ways they go about expressing it. Working at KLEMA has taught me to be extremely patient and the importance of a schedule. Having a consistent schedule to go by is a vital part of these children's lives. EXPERIENCE: Fam#1: triplets in 2nd grade (1 girl 2 boys) & son in middle school + 2dogs (sick or snow day care) Fam#2: son in 5th grade and daughter in 8th grade +1 dog (3x/week after school care) Fam#3: daughters in 4th and 5th grade (1x after school care) Fam#4: 5 year old niece (1x weekend care)
