Hello, My name is Mariama. I've been working with children my entire life due to the fact that I am the third oldest of eight children. My title is one that came out of built in experience and training concerning childcare through the family. Along with this title comes the inevitable fact that I will be watching children for many many years to come due to my family. My younger siblings range from 16 years of age to infancy, so likewise, my experience level expands to those age ranges and everywhere in between. Many would think that I would get tired of interacting with children after dealing with them on a daily basis. This is certainly not the case for me. I have worked at two childcare centers and gained more focused experience in interacting with children from infancy all the way up until 5 years old. At my first Read more job, I was a floater, meaning that I dealt with all age ranges. On any given day I dealt with anywhere from 10 to 15 children in one classroom as a teacher's assistant. I assisted with ensuring the safety of the children, handling conflicts among the children, diaper changes, story time, and so much more. Among the skills I gained in this field was the ability to effectively communicate to the parents about their child's behavior. Another skill gained was the ability to multitask and keep watch of so many children at once. Their safety was in our hands and I never took that lightly. At my second job, I worked solely with infants as a teacher's assistant. I changed many diapers and also followed strict diet and nap time schedules. One of the skills gained from that occupation was punctuality. Children were changed after a certain number of hours and were fed after a certain number of hours. Bottles couldn't be kept out past a certain time interval and there were several other time restraints that had to be strictly followed.
