I am currently a senior at the University of Mary Washington. I have spent my undergraduate years as a biology major, chemistry minor on a pre-medical track. I have recently decided to hold off on going to medical school to get a post-bac degree in computer science. I will graduate this May but will be here for another two years to finish my computer science degree. I have been working with kids for as long as I can remember. I have nine cousins who are younger than me who range from toddler to teen years. I have babysat for many family members and friends numerous times. For the past three years, I have been a nanny during the summer months and school breaks. The first child I nannied was three summers ago. I watched him from 3 months until 6 months old. Two summers ago, I began nannying a 6-month-old Read more girl. I currently still nanny for this family while home on breaks and during the summer months. She is now 2 years old and has a 5-month-old sister. While babysitting and nannying, I have been responsible for cooking meals, supervising play times, putting the children to bed and minor household work such as straightening up and doing laundry. I have also accompanied parents on errands and doctors appointments. I love working with kids! I know when it is time to be serious and time to let my childish side come out and have fun. I have worked for Mary Washington Healthcare in their emergency department. I had the opportunity to work with many children and their families during their times of need. I am a member of two honor societies on campus. Both societies value members who excel in scholarship, leadership and service. I have been on the Dean's list and President's list several semesters while here at UMW. I have worked for the university as an Orientation Leader for incoming freshman and have been president of several clubs and organizations. I also have a lot of knowledge pertaining to working with children. While in high school, I took Child Development, Advanced Child Development, and Child Development Work study courses. I studied the stages of child development from birth to six years old. I had actual experiences daily while working one-on-one with children in a pre-school. As a requirement, I had to prepare and develop lesson plans to teach the children.
