I became a caregiver when I was 8 years old and my little sister was born; as my sister and I grew older, I often took on the responsibility of caring for her while my parents worked. I always enjoyed this responsibility, not only because I love children, but because I believe caring for them is an extremely rewarding experience. My only experience does not come from caring for my sister, however; I have cared for children of varying ages and needs. For example, I regularly cared for a boy in preschool who was autistic, a pair of school age siblings, and another boy with unspecified learning disabilities. I am always patient with my children, as well as attentive to their individual needs and personalities. I love to engage with children in their play and learning, and I am pretty darn good at persuading them to do things they don't Read more want to (like brush their teeth or eat their vegetables). I like to be creative with the kids I sit for because in all honesty, I am really a child at heart. For example, I often think up ideas for games or arts and crafts that the child will enjoy. What I love most about caring for children is the bond that I forge with the kids I sit for. Though it can be an exhausting job at times, I always grow to love the children I care for and they grow to love me back.
