For about six years, I have been a morning "Nanny" to two young girls, now aged 10 and 13, helping them get ready for school. I have spent other times with them as well: helping them plan surprise birthday parties for their dad who has custody; preparing and participating in tea parties or craft sessions with them and their friends. I also currently take care of the nursery on Sunday morning for a church, as well as helping with the class for 4-5 year olds. Another paid position that involved young people was the HELP program at Norf. Botanical Gdns. I began as a volunteer and later was given a part-time position, working with at-risk teens by working in the garden with them, helping tutor them for their GED test, and assisting with social and life skills classes. I've also done volunteer work with a variety of ages: den mother Read more for cub scouts, class assistant for a second grade teacher, teaching Sunday school classes. In addition, some years ago when there were a number of children in our neighborhood, they became interested in my garden so I spent time showing them the gardens and teaching them about the plants, etc. I also planned parties and gatherings for holidays and such with these children - sometimes having as many as 15-16 children ages 4 through pre-teen. My experience with children is wide and varied and I like nothing better than to be able to spend time helping them learn, nurturing them and watching them grow. I would add that I raised (and lived nicely through) raising my own 3 boys - difference in ages of 2 years and 3 years.
