Hello there! My name is Connor Locklin, and I have been working with children my entire life. From the age of 9 I was helping to coach and assist younger students in my Karate Class. At the age of 12 I began to help as an assistant Instructor at the same Karate school. By 14 I was a "Counselor in Training" with the wonderful Reston Association Hug A Tree program as well as babysitting regularly for more than 5 local families through my Karate school and other connections. I continued to be a camp counselor, Karate instructor and babysitter until I graduated high school from South Lakes High School and it was off to Elon University where I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a concentration in Child Behavior and Early Childhood Development. Fast forward to current day, and I have just come off of 2 years as Read more a manager at a Board Game and Card Game store in North Carolina that brought the most fulfilling work with kids of all ages and developmental levels - doing everything from finding games to tear children away from their electronic device to curating games specifically for children with various physical or developmental delays or complications. Now that I am back in the Northern Virginia closer to my family (my mother works in the FCPS system and my sister teaches at the prestigious DC Prep Charter) I am looking to find opportunities to be a helpful and positive presence in the lives of children and ease the constant worry of parents trying to find a qualified and patient caretaking presence in their child's life while they are away or unable to be with their child. I am a very open, warm and calm person who finds most success meeting a child where their needs are without attempting to minimize or trivialize the situation. Treating children with the respect of a peer while keeping in mind their developmental limitations has brought me years of comfortable and natural communication with children, while still being able to make the final definitive call as the adult when need be. As I said, I am an open person and would welcome any questions about myself or my history with children.
