I am a woman with an innate passion and desire to help others. I have majored in English with a minor in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University with a general focus in child and adolescent development, have completed various courses in Social Work, and am awaiting acceptance in to VCU's Master of Social Work program so I can pursue my dream of working with at-risk youth . I currently volunteer with the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Richmond with battered women and children, and have completed thirty-six hours of training in accordance with the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance for certification in the Child Development Center, Emergency Hotline, and Regional Hospital Accompaniment Response Team (RHART) program. I helped to take care of my grandmother following brain surgery to remove a large tumor, assisted her with her physical therapy sessions and was a constant source of encouragement and Read more understanding during a difficult time. I get along with people from all walks of life, and have always been the friend, colleague, or coworker, that others come to when they need to someone to confide in. I am a believer in owning your situation, whatever it may be, and allowing it to be a part of who you are but not to let it define who you are. I believe that my perception, empathy, positive outlook on life, strong active listening skills, and acceptance of others, are some of my greatest innate strengths. I am extremely reliable and committed to everything I do, am some someone you could trust with anything and who would go out of their way to earn your trust. The reason I haven't had any paid babysitting positions is because all of my work has been as a volunteer with non-profits involving children as well as nursing homes and assisted living centers. I have an open, giving heart, and look forward to this type of work not for any personal gain, but because it is my life goal to make a difference helping others, and I will always go out of my way to do so.
