I'm a friendly 28 year old substitute teacher who has received her BA in psychology. I've worked with kids aged from 3 months to 14-15 years old professionally for close to 10 years now and absolutely love it. I was employed by a child care facility for about 3.5 years but left to pursue babysitting/nannying as my main job. I eventually decided to work in an educational setting and have been employed as a substitute teacher by Fairfax County Public Schools for 5 years now. I've always had great luck with kids responding well to me and I get the impression that it's because they like me as much as I like them. Children usually warm up to me almost immediately upon meeting them and I think it's because they can recognize a new, fun, climbable big-person when they see one! It's really rewarding, honestly. I hope to go into teaching high schoolers one day because I really enjoy learning things from kids a bit younger than myself and also am glad that I can be somewhat of a confidant for them. I am huge on respect, ownership, and honesty so you can be assured that I'll keep your little ones absolutely safe, mindful, and responsible. I am transparent about what behavior I believe is acceptable and unacceptable to the children right at the beginning, so it's up to them afterwards to abide by those rules. My reward and punishment system has worked really well for me over the years and all my families have complimented me on my ability to stick by it while still being on the kids' good side. I babysat frequently for parents from the old day care I worked at, as well as for family and friends. I've also had great success with the 7+ families I found over the years from sittercity and still work for them now, as needed (though the kids are now in middle/high school so they don't need me as much!) They've all recommended me to their own friends and neighbors which, I believe, says a lot about their trust in not only my professionalism, but their trust for me on a personal level as well. I encourage activeness, creativity, and communication so I have thankfully not met a child who hates me coming over (yet). You can be sure that I will get along just fine with your child.
